Digital Spy reports that LG has unveiled the world’s thinnest liquid crystal display (LCD) television panel at just 2.6 millimetres (0.1 inches) thick.
The South Korean firm said in a statement that the ultra-slim design was achieved by using proprietary optical film technology and an edge-lit light emitting diode backlight system.
The 42 inch TV panel, which weighs in at less than four kilograms and offers a 120Hz refresh rate with full HD (1920×1080) resolution, will be officially showcased at next year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Last week, LG set the ambitious target of selling 400,000 3D-ready TV sets around the world in 2010 as it aims to dominate the nascent market.
